Introduction to Thatching One Day Course - Wednesday 11th July - Ty Mawr Brecon
Do you have a free day on Wednesday and want to learn a new skill or listen to a master sharing his craft, then why not join us for our Introduction to Thatching day with Welsh Master Thatcher Alan Jones from Pembrokeshire Thatch and Carpentry Services.
It is a fascinating day, starting with an illustrated talk on the history and styles of thatching, the day then focuses on practical hands-on work on a purpose-built display. It will cover what is and isn't repairable, new and repair projects, and selection of materials. Alan is the last Master Thatcher in Wales, and this course provides an insight into the history and craft of thatching, along with its association with food and shelter. Part of the course content also covers growing milling and baking, the methods and materials our ancestors may have used.
All work is done at ground level. Suitable for homeowners, builders, architects and other enthusiasts. It includes a homecooked lunch with ingredients from our own Kitchen Garden in the beautiful surroundings of Ty-Mawr, on the shores of Llangorse Lake.
