Learn the basics of machine knitting and create a gorgeous Fair Isle scarf or cushion cover with Marissa.
Course Description
Whether you’re an absolute beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this course will give you a firm grounding in the basics of machine knitting. You’ll gain an understanding of how the machine works and what it can do, with plenty of time to practise and experiment. The workshop covers basic skills, such as casting on and off, knitting fair isle using the punch cards and hems using manual techniques. Use the linker to complete finishing touches. You’ll create a beautiful fair isle scarf or cushion cover to keep or give as a gift.
What will the course involve?
• Marissa will bring along yarns in various colours for you to choose from, so that you can design and make an original scarf. There will be a charge for these materials of £20 payable on the day.
• Create and come away with technical swatches
• We provide advice on buying a machine and sourcing yarn, accessories and spare parts
• A plentiful supply of tea, coffee and afternoon cakes is provided. Buy or bring your own lunch.
• This is a two-day workshop. Day 1 (Saturday) is 10am to 4.30pm; Day 2 (Sunday) is 10am to 1pm, followed by lunch (finished by 2pm)
Accommodation
We will be running our one day workshop at the lovely Pendre Art in Cardigan. Just a stone’s throw away from the venue are the fforest granary lofts. If you’re travelling from afar we would highly recommend them as a place to stay.
The apartments have a wonderful atmosphere and décor and sit right on the river in Cardigan town centre facing the castle, opposite the fforest pizzatipi and café. The lofts have been designed to create light comfortable spaces specifically for holiday use.
As a special treat, why not come a little early and book in at fforest and have a nice break before (and/or after) your workshop? More stories
