Continuing our season of high quality drama is Diary of a Madman, a special piece that has been touring worldwide for the last six years, visiting locations including Armenia, North Carolina and Germany!
This dark comedy by Gogol is a timeless piece that explores the human condition when it comes face to face with its own mortality.
Set in St Petersberg, among the petty repressed civil Service of Tsarist Russia, Robert Bowman plays Poprishchin, a low-ranking civil servant who is driven insane by government bureaucracy and hierarchy. He chronicles his descent into madness in a series of blackly comic diary entries.
But finally Poprishchin makes an amazing discovery; he could actually be the next King of Spain! Is this true, or is this more madness in his surreal fantasy world?
‘Utterly tragic and black-dog-funny, this one-man monologue is ferociously portrayed, with a torrent of stream-of-consciousness language, and all punctuated by a fine brooding score by Roland Melia.’
???? Edinburgh Spotlight
'Robert Bowman perfectly encapsulates a range of emotions as we watch him unravel before our eyes and head deeper and deeper into a fantasy world.'
