HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography Workshop at Craig-y-Nos Country Park Sunday, 12 November, 9:30am - 4:30pm. Cost just £25
For an explanation about what HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography is, please see the Photography Tuition page of my website: www.PhotographyCymru.com
Taking place at the photography studio, in the grounds of Craig-y-Nos Country Park, Brecon Road, Pen-y-Cae, Swansea Valley SA9 1GL. Cost just £25 for the day. Please phone or email me if you would like to book a place. Full payment of the £25 workshop fee to be paid in advance to secure a place (only refunded in the unlikely case of the workshop being cancelled). Tel: 07850 656765 info@bobgraingerphotography.com.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, along with all training materials, but you will need to bring a packed lunch (or eat at the Changing Seasons Tea Rooms/Cafe in the park). If the weather is good after lunch, then there will be a small amount of travelling around the country park involved (a couple of hundred yards), but the terrain is flat and accessible for wheelchairs. In the event of bad weather, the practical part of the workshop may need to be carried out indoors. There are also two disabled access toilets close by. Parking is free for my students!
You will need to bring:
• A DSLR camera, equipped with a memory card, a fully-charged battery and, ideally, its instruction manual (if you own a 'bridge' camera, and not actually a DSLR, then please contact me with the make and model, and I will check to see if it's suitable for the course);
• A laptop computer and charger - Windows or Mac (as HDR photography requires computer manipulation of images, a computer is required). If you are unable to bring a laptop computer along with you, then I'm sure that someone else will let you sit down and share with them (including me);
• Some means of uploading the photos from the camera to the laptop, e.g., card reader, USB cable, etc. If you don't have such a device, then I have several that people can use;
• A tripod (if you don't have one, then I have several that people can use);
• A cable/infrared/wireless shutter release if you have one (a great investment for HDR work, typically costing less than £10 on eBay). If you don't have one, then you will be able to make do without;
• Packed lunch (or eat at the Changing Seasons Tea Rooms in the park).
Very little photography/camera experience or knowledge is required to attend this workshop.
To be able to carry out HDR Photography after you get home, you will need access to a computer (Windows or Mac), and specialist software. The industry-standard HDR software package is called Photomatix, costing £72 inc. VAT, and is available for Windows or Mac. I will be supplying each student with a free (and legal) copy of Photomatix Pro, which is fully-functional and without time limit, but will imbed a subtle watermark in each image that is produced. However, at least you will be able to have fun with the programme, and go on to learn a lot about how to use it in your own time, perhaps taking the step of buying it watermark-free in the future.
