6pm - 7:30pm
Alongside John Abell’s exhibition Lost Conquistadors and Other Works we’ll be reading Louis De Berniéres The War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts which is the first published novel by the author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
Feel the sweltering heat and passion of an un-specified Latin American country. The book combines serious political concerns, echoing the torment and turbulence of 20th century South and Central America, with the absurd, outrageous and symbolic drawing on the ‘magical realism’ of Gabriel García Márquez.
“A fat juicy tropical fruit of a narrative – There is astonishing landscape. There are numerous Jokes. And, indispensably in such a novel, there is magic” Independent on Sunday
Come along for a friendly discussion led by Kirsten Hinks Knight.
Free entry, tea and cake provided.
Ar y cyd gyda’r arddangosfa Lost Conquistadors a Gweithiau Eraill gan John Abell byddwn yn darllen y llyfr The War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts, sef y nofel gyntaf a gyhoeddwyd gan yr awdur Louis De Berniéres, sydd fwyaf enwog am y llyfr Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
Medrwch deimlo enaid, angerdd a gwres y wlad De Americanaidd dienw. Mae’r llyfr yn cyfuno pryderon gwleidyddol difrifol, sy’n adleisio artaith a chynnwrf De a Chanolbarth America yn yr 20fed ganrif, gyda sefyllfaoedd symbolaidd, gwarthus a hurt yn ôl traddodiad ‘realaeth hudolus’ Gabriel García Márquez.
