Today it was revealed that Rhod Gilbert is the person who made the £3000 donation to the 'Save the Parrot' fund. The campaign to reopen the towns music venue was given a massive boost last week when the funding was pushed up to the opening target of £5000 by a then mystery donor. The Carmarthen born comedian spoke extensively with the West Wales Music Collective, who have set up to reopen the Parrot, to discover the history ,aims and intentions of the group before making the donation. He has also expressed an interest in helping the venue once opened.
A spokesman for the West Wales Music Collective said " the donation gave the campaign wind in it's sails and now we are hopeful of reaching our £10,000 target which would ensure we can make necessary improvements to the venue as well as securing it's initial. future. We still need to keep pushing the campaign and we ask anyone who came, played and enjoyed the venue over it's 3 years to donate, even if it's just a little. If all the peoople who passed through donated £5/10 we'd easily hit our target. This is a project that intends to run the venue, as well as other music events such as the Old Town Festival, on a non profit basis for the community for years to come. This could be somewhere that our children cherish into the future."
The first round of gigs will be announced shortly along with a few new incitements to donate.
